The Orangeburg Fire District has a limited supply of smoke alarms available to the residences of Orangeburg. Please check that your smoke alarms are operating and the location of your smoke alarms are correct. Please contact the firehouse at the email address listed. Reference “I NEED A SMOKE ALARM” in the subject line. Remember, supplies are limited and once they have been distributed, we will not have anymore. Kidde suggests on their website that: “In a typical home fire, occupants have just minutes to escape. And because smoke in one area may not reach a smoke alarm in another, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends placement of at least one smoke alarm on every level of the home (including basements), in every bedroom, and outside each sleeping area.”
