The Orangeburg Fire District is the governing agency for fire protection within the hamlet of Orangeburg, New York. The Orangeburg Fire District is governed by the board of fire commissioners. The board is comprised of five residents of the Orangeburg Fire District who are publicly elected. The board of fire commissioners are elected to five-year terms on a staggered basis. The chairman of the board is elected annually by the commissioners, and the board appoints a secretary-treasurer, who serves as the chief fiscal officer each year.

The board of fire commissioners over sees the Orangeburg fire department who is tasked with the mission of fire suppression and rescue operations within the Orangeburg Fire District. The Orangeburg Fire Department is staffed completely with volunteers, and administrated by a Chief, two Assistant Chiefs, a Captain, two Lieutenants, and three engineers. There are currently forty-seven members of the department.

The Orangeburg Fire District is comprised of a population of 3,388 within approximately 4.09 square miles and is the 12th largest district in the county. We take on the responsibility to protect over 1,335 residential households within the Orangeburg Fire District. 363 of these families have children under 18. Within the confines of the Orangeburg Fire District there is a mix of residential, commercial, healthcare, and educational facilities. It also includes coverage of the Palisade’s Interstate Parkway. See the shaded area of the map below.

Included in the district fire coverage is the Rockland Psychiatric Center (RPC). This is a 600+ bed mental health facility that provides treatment, rehabilitation, and support to adults with complex mental illness.

The district is also home to corporate headquarters, factories, and warehouses including Clarion, Keebler, and Chromoly.

We also serve the community by protecting the Dominican College. This is an independent, four-year, and master’s-level college. The schools full time enrollment is approximately 1,114 students.

In addition, we proudly serve the community by protecting the Tappan Zee High School. The school services the South Orangetown school district and provides education for grades 9-12 with a current student enrollment of 998.
